Many RV owners use their RV very little during the year, while others live in the unit year-round. Whether you need to store your RV for weeks, or for months, there are certain steps to be taken to ensure that it remains in good condition while being stored. Here, you'll find a short list to assist you with RV storage.
Storage Services
Unfortunately, many RV owners don't have the space to store the RV on their personal property properly. A dry, level area is required—preferably a hard surface, but at the very least, compacted gravel. This will help to reduce the moisture exposure under the rig. Less moisture underneath means fewer rust and rot issues.
Storage Prep Services
Some storage facilities offer storage preparation services. These services include prepping the waterlines for cold temperatures, ensuring that the propane tanks are turned off, preparing the batteries, and so on.
The Batteries
Those batteries aren't cheap to replace, so if you know that the RV will be stored for several weeks, or longer, disconnect the battery. Also, be sure that the battery has water. Low water levels result in rapid freezing and the death of your battery.
Some storage facilities offer electricity outlets to plug battery tenders in. This is the best option for superior protection.
Stop the Rodents
Rodents will try to make your RV their home while it sits parked. To stop rodent damage:
Top Off Fluids in Motorhomes
Top off the antifreeze, oil, and fuel. When you top off the fuel, add a fuel stabilizer that will prevent it from aging and damaging the engine when you start it up again.
